2010 Riverfest Backyard Division Sept. 17-18 Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, AL

So do you have the best BBQ Chicken and Ribs in your neighborhood? Well come and prove it to everyone in the Backyard division at the Decatur Jaycees 16th annual Riverfest at Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, Al. The Backyard Competition’s categories will be Chicken and Ribs (spare ribs or baby back). The rules for each category will be based on the KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) sanctioning rules. Teams will be allowed to start setting up on Thursday September 16th at 3:00 p.m. Meat will be inspected on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The turn in times will be 3:00 p.m. for chicken and 3:30 p.m. for ribs on Saturday.
Backyard Division Entry Fees
Your entry fee includes your cooking site and four weekend armbands.

What Your Entry Fee Covers
What does your entry fee include? All teams will be issued four weekend armbands. This will allow four people full access to the Riverfest activities.
There will be no access to electricity or water at each site. We will have a water tank of non-potable water for washing of pots and pans. Teams are responsible for a means to transport the water to their cook site.
All parking will be in the parking lot next to the competition area. If a team has purchased a 20x20 spot they can park one vehicle at their area. We will have ten parking spots allocated for RVs or campers at an additional $50.00.
There will be a total of 72 10x10 spots and 10 20x20 spots available to teams. First come first served basis will be used for team spots based on the registration form and check being received by The Decatur Jaycees in the order they come in. If teams would like to have more room multiple spots can be purchased. Teams are responsible for bringing something to hold their tents down. The concrete in site area is to thick to drive stakes in to secure your EZ-Ups etc.
Additional Competition Rules
- Teams cannot bring beer to the contest after 3:00 pm Friday afternoon. Cases of beer will be available for sale on site.
- All cooking must be done on the team spots
- Ice is available for purchase on site.
- There will be a mandatory cooks meeting on Friday the 17th at 5 pm.
Prizes and Awards
We will award trophies, ribbons, and money in each of the two categories. The top ten in each category will be announced. A team must participate in both categories to be eligible for Grand Champion. Money will be allocated based on total team entries. Part of the awards money will be used to buy trophies and ribbons.
Example of Prize distribution for 40 teams:
- Overall Grand Champion: $250.00
- Reserve Grand Champion: $150.00
Categories Chicken or Ribs
- First Place: $150.00
- Second Place: $100.00
- Third Place: $75.00
- Fourth through Sixth: $50.00
- Seventh through Tenth: $25.00

Hold Harmless Clause: The Decatur Jaycees shall not be responsible or liable in any way for any losses, costs, damages, liabilities, debts or expenses incurred by the participants of the 2010 Riverfest Cook-off, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, successors or assigns as a result of any acts, omissions or negligence of any person, firm, partnership or corporation attending or participating in the 2010 Riverfest Cook-off, whether or not the act, omission or negligence occurs prior to, during or following the 2010 Riverfest Cook-off.
