We're glad you are interested in possibly joining the Jaycees.
This is a great time to get involved. The Decatur Jaycees have been around
for many, many years and have had hundreds of members in that time. For the past
couple of years we have had a surge in membership and we continue
to grow and get more active in the community. The Jaycees are responsible
for several annual events, with Riverfest being the biggest and most notable.
We meet twice a month...the first Tuesday of the month at 12 noon
at The Holiday Inn in Decatur and the third
Thursday of the month at various restaurants in town. The Thursday night
meeting usually consists of networking and socializing. During the
lunch meetings we have officer reports, committee reports, and handle any business,
make announcements, etc. The meetings don't last longer than one hour (if that long) and attendance
is not required (i.e. we urge attendance but understand that our jobs sometimes
get in the way).
Dues are $240/year (with a one time "induction
fee" of $60 that goes to the state association), which covers your meal at each
meeting (24 meetings per year = $10 per meeting). That can be paid annually,
quarterly, monthly...however is easiest. Some members pay their own dues, some companies pay
for them.
We do a lot of community service, which is our
mission, but we are also making the Jaycees a networking and social
organization.
